OUR MODEL STEAM LAUNCH PLANS

 The Edwardian 26' was designed by Selway Fisher in the early 1990's for a local client who wanted her to cruise the Kennet & Avon on.

 The original was to be powered by an inboard diesel but since then several have been built all round the world using both steam and electric power, with various different lengths 36' and beams up to 8'. The bow style has also been modified from clipper to vertical stem. Below are some photographs of the real launch in various different guises.

 The 17'9" Indian Runner was designed by Paul Fisher of Selway Fisher design in the early 1990's to offer maximum carrying capacity for a reasonably sized steam plant or electric drive and batteries on a small and attractive launch.

 She has the strong rounded bow and wineglass transom shape of typical Dixon Kemp style launches of the Victorian Era along with a very stable mid-ship section. Many of the full-size launches have been built all round the world, some at the 17'9" length and others at a length of 21'6".

 The 22' Ruby launch was designed as a solution for those steam boat enthusiasts who wanted to get their steam plant onto the water quickly without going to the extent of building a strip planked hull. A double chined plywood hull offers an elegant low cost compromise between good looks and ease and speed of construction.

 So the task was to design a hull with the profile and plan shape of the Selway Fisher Indian Runner strip planked hulls in plywood

 The 13' Felix was designed to be the smallest launch you could fit a steam plant into and still have room for 3 crew. Some Felix launches have been fitted with electric power and others with a conventional diesel inboard. The design was also stretched to 15' and this can be done with the model plans simply by increasing the distance between the mould stations.

 The hull has a typically English plumb stem and a delightful wineglass transom. The model drawings are drawn up to a 107.5 scale which produces a hull 21" (533mm) long. At this size, the engine etc needs to be light in weight but it would be very easy to increase the scale to1:6 or 1:5 for instance, by scanning and enlarging the moulds which would accommodate a heavier propulsion unit and r/c gear.
