OUR MODEL MOTOR BOAT PLANS

 This is a 1:10 scale model of Selway Fisher's Fanny the Fantail Launch which was designed for the Boatman magazine. There are many examples built all round the world both at the original 15'3" length and the extended 17'9" length. Both the full-size boat and model may be fitted with either steam power or motor.

 The model is for Balsa wood sheet construction but she could be made using ply. The plan package consists of two A1 sheets giving full model sized centre girder, frame shapes and shapes for seats, wheelhouse etc. She has plenty of room for radio gear.

 Standard rudder and sterngear equipment is used and the radio control can be the low cost Futuba Attack 2 ER two channel radio control unit (or similar) which was easily fitted and set up.

 This is a steel multi-chine motor barge for use in the waters of the UK and Europe, crossing the Channel and exploring the rivers and canals of the European mainland.

 She has a section of parallel middle-body which means that she can be stretched although at 41' she has room for extensive accommodations in what would have been her hold area. She is a rugged ocean crosser.

 This is a simple semi-scale Balsa model based on the Selway Fisher Power 225 aluminium 22' power cruiser which can be seen on the Selway Fisher Design site

Simple sheet Balsa wood is used with the model construction based on the flat deck which is placed upside down and the bulkheads glued to it upside down. The Balsa centre girder is slotted and glued in place followed by the chines before the sheet balsa plank is glued to the framework.

A quick and simple model with startling performance. For simplicity she uses the Graupner 380 Multi-speed motor/shaft/propeller all in one power unit. The first boat used a low cost Futuba Attack 2 ER two channel radio control unit which was easily fitted and set up. The hull would be a good base for you to design your own superstructure on making her a Pilot Boat, Motor Gun Boat, Harbour Launch etc.

 Although this model may be built using plank over frame (Balsa or thin plywood), the principle method of construction shown on the drawings is for stitch and tape (tack and tape). This involves marking and cutting out the full model sized shapes given for the hull panels (planks), bulkheads and transom. The hull panels are then Sellotaped together and the transom and bulkheads fitted before all the joins and seams are finished with epoxy (Araldite type). This produces a quickly made and accurate model hull ready for fitting out.

 The original wheelhouse and open cockpit is shown on the plans but she can be fitted out in a number of different ways - below we give some photographs of the full-sized boat fitted out as a water taxi and fishing boat.

 The hull has plenty of weight carrying capacity and would be a good base for you to design your own superstructure on, making her a Pilot Boat, Motor Gun Boat, Harbour Launch etc.

 This is a 1:15 scale working model of one of Selway Fisher's latest designs - a 25' Slipper Launch along the lines of the traditional Thames type. Construction is for Balsa sheet with Balsa frames slotted onto a fore and aft girder before chine and gunwale stringers are attached and the hull planked in thin Balsa sheet.

 Thin plywood could also be used. Whilst the real boat uses an electric pod for propulsion, the model uses a simple electric motor housed forward of the cockpit and connected to a shaft and prop. There is space for lightweight radio gear.

 This is a 1:12 (1"=1') scale model of one of Selway Fisher’s classic motor launch designs based on the Hackers and Chris Craft of the 1930’s and 40’s. The original design was to house or package twin Super Snipe engines which a client had spare an elegant shaped hull built using modern ply/epoxy techniques.

The model emulates this with simple construction in Balsa sheet with Balsa frames slotted onto a fore and aft girder before chine and gunwale stringers are attached and the hull planked in thin Balsa sheet. Thin plywood could also be used and there is space for lightweight radio gear.
