SMALL CATAMARAN DAYBOATS
|
We have 3 designs for
simple plywood catamarans below 16' length
Note -
In the particulars for each design, the dry weight is given for guidance
only and will vary depending on the grade/density of plywood and solid
wood used - different thicknesses of ply are often used by builders and
the dry weight figure is based on the thinnest ply specified.
Also the Guidance Use comments are given in good faith and are based on
feedback from previous builders etc and based on standard weight adults
- contact us if you want further clarification before ordering/building.

16' SIMPLE SURF
CAT
|
|
|
16x 7. Very simple construction based upon 7 sheets of ply and easy V
section hulls with no centreboards. Costs have been kept right down by using
wood beams and a simple ply aerofoil section mast. Definitely a sporty fun boat
for the beach and for some competitive single handed sailing. A poor mans
Hobie cat. Easily demountable with everything secured by bolts minimal
construction time.

18x 11 (hull beam 3). Ultra simple stitch and tape construction using
10 sheets of 1/4 and 4 sheets of 3/8 ply. Built-in buoyancy, good
storage and sit-in hulls which may, under a canvas canopy be used for sleeping
as well as the bridge deck area making her an ideal coastal/beach camping boat.
Beams are simply bolted to the hulls and each hull may be made in two parts and
bolted together.
The plans show details for
a fixed low aspect ratio keel as an alternative to the daggerboards.

5m RODCAT BEACH CATAMARAN
|
|
The Rodcat 5 is a simple beach catamaran with asymmetric hulls. To make
construction quick and easy, each hull is built up from a flat inboard side
which is laid flat on a workbench. The transom and ply bulkheads are then fitted
to this side and the pre-shaped bilge and side panels added and stitched
together. All seams are then epoxy filleted before the deck is put on over size
and trimmed back. The 'I' beams are made up from wood and are simply lashed into
beam slots mounted on top of the deck so that assembly is quick. The
daggerboards are mounted in outboard slots formed on the vertical inboard hull
sides and the drawings give details for wood mast and boom. LOD 18' (5.5m); Beam
